Review: The Play

The Play The Play by Elle Kennedy
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Ahhhh! Hunter has been a personal favorite character since I started reading this series and I was only too happy to finally get my hands on his book.

I loved how this book was told--a good part was more on Demi and Hunter just being friends. I loved how that worked (and so well!). Their relationship as friends was fun to read and made the inevitable HEA much more meaningful.

It was fun and funny how Hunter put himself in the situation he was in. I just feel bad that Demi wasted so many years of her life with being a guy who was continuously cheating on her. Now, their chemistry was undeniable but how they eventually got together was a bit of a disappointment. As much as I was rooting for them, I was also hoping that Hunter would see through his personal, uh, mission. It was unfortunate that Demi pressured him into breaking his own oath. It was time-bound so it was unnecessary to cut it short since it was not a forever thing. I just hope it didn't go that way.

Nevertheless, this was still a great read, as is the usual with EK's books. Will there be another book in the series? Well, it can't hurt and I'd be more than glad to read it.

Review: The Kingmaker

The Kingmaker The Kingmaker by Kennedy Ryan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I cannot believe that The Kingmaker is my very first Kennedy Ryan book. How?! Why?! I may not be able to forgive myself for this crime.

This was an amazing read! *newbie KR fangirl squeal* It was raw and organic, so tangible that it almost didn't feel like a story I was reading. Instead, it felt like I was really in Maxim and Lennix's world and I had a front-row seat to their lives. I always love a good set of well-written characters and this book didn't have a shortage of them. I love how the main characters had a true history and how the story eventually developed from each point of connection between the two of them.

I will not risk giving away spoilers so I will keep this review short. But aaaaaaaaaah! this book was just too much for my lowly self to handle! So sexy, so articulate (made it sexier!), so cohesively thought out. The only bad thing about it is that I have to wait for a few more days to read the second book. I'm gonna expire from waiting! One thing's for sure though. This book and this duet as a whole is gonna be a tough read to follow!

Review: The Rebel Queen

The Rebel Queen The Rebel Queen by Jeana E. Mann
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I was so prepared to fall in love with this book. I enjoyed the first part of the duet so much that this book had great expectations tattooed all over it.

Unfortunately, all my excitement wasn't really met. Despite it being the second book already, I still couldn't find myself getting connected with the characters even to the point of finding them a bit stilted. I just couldn't get into the story, making this a bit of a slow read.

This doesn't mean I've given up on JEM. This duet was just the first books of hers I've read and despite everything, I still want to read her other stuff.

Review: Sweet Addiction

Sweet Addiction Sweet Addiction by J. Daniels
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I just realized that I kept on skipping this book for the longest time, thinking that I have already read it. All that time I was confusing it for another book--just a case of slightly similar covers.

I quite enjoyed this book despite my apprehensions because I have always been on the fence when it comes to insta-love stories. But despite that, the story still managed to suck me in. It was fast-paced but not too much to sacrifice any of the storytelling. I always love me some well-written characters and this book didn't have a shortage of it.

If there's anything I hate more than a real insta-love starter to a story, it's a poorly written, hasty ending. I am so glad that despite how Dylan and Reese's story started, the ending was properly thought out and unhurried. JD has yet to disappoint me and that's a good thing.

Review: The Royal Arrangement

The Royal Arrangement The Royal Arrangement by Jeana E. Mann
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I knew this was the first half of a duet so I knew it was going to be kind of a short read. I just didn't expect it to be that short. Or was I enjoying it too much that it felt like a quick read?

This was the first JEM book that I read and oh, man! It was a fun book! Royalty, (dirty) political intrigue, and smutty BDSM undertones--all in a single read!

Prince Henry sounded deliciously dark and Evelyn was a clear opposite, perfectly complementing him. I went into this book expecting some smut...okay, a lot of. But instead I got very good, fast-paced narration and very promising, well-written characters. The only thing negative I can say about this book was that it ended sooner than I was ready for it to. Cliffhanger galore. And I have to wait until the middle of October for the second half?! Whyyyy?!?!?!

Overall, a great one-sitting, first-time read from this author. I can feel my TBR pile growing with her other books already.
