Series Recommendation #7: Just Human by Kerry Heavens

I was a lucky girl to have come across this two-part series. There's too many feels in these two I didn't know what to do with myself when I finished them. Huh, I didn't know what to do while I was reading them except skip meals because as much as I love food, there was no way I was not going to finish these two in one go.

I loved KH's writing. And I loved the fact that there are only two books to this series and none of those stories that just drags on too long that the main focus of the story gets lost somewhere between the second or the fourth books. This series was just right with the laughter, the tears, and just this awesome feel of gooey inside that it will wring from you. Bottom line is, these two books are must-reads. You'll thank me later.

Danny and Liv are back...

Danny loves Liv. He knows he loves her more than she loves him because she ran without a word when she saw their future mapped out before her. He knows he will never love anyone like he loved her and this time he doesn’t think he can move on.

Liv loves Danny. She knows she loves him more than he loves her because he broke her heart in the worst possible way, right when things were falling into place. She knows she will never love anyone like she loves him and this time she doesn’t think she can move on.

They needed a second chance because they just weren’t ready for their first, but when events changed everything between them, they discovered they were just human after all. Now Liv and Danny have to find a way to survive being hurt by each other. 

They doubted, they underestimated and they did believe the worst, but only because they were too young the first time and too vulnerable the second time. But now they have changed and if they are not the same, surely things can only turn out differently?


So when the first book ended like it did, I did expect that this book was going to start off being quite a bit sad. A bit?! Right. I was on a high reading the first book only to come crashing loudly back down to the ground. You have favorite books and then you have favorite characters. Liv and Danny were fast becoming mine. These two were just beautiful to read together.

And somehow, as KH maintains the natural prose and relaxed yet intense storytelling, she took me on a rollercoaster of emotions. From the feeling of despair to the high of highs, this second book in this series had me crying in most parts of it. Either that or I would have just imploded! At the risk of not giving away any spoilers, I just would like to say that their wedding was a happy cryfest. I just loved everything about it. Sniff. I want someone to put ointment on my new inks, too. Gaaawd.

I don't think I have ever described a book as being generous. But I guess I will do so in this case. Apropos to the title, there were a lot of human emotions in betweens these pages. An influx of amazing secondary characters that made me all smiley. An extended epilogue? I cannot complain at all. I was glad I set aside my Sunday for these two.


Final verdict: 10/10. The awesome-est of great reads. Must read.

Meet Liv and Danny...

Liv loves Danny. She knows she loves him more than he loves her, so she lets him go without a fight when his parents make him move back to America. She knows she will never love anyone like she loved him, but she has to move on.

Danny loves Liv. He knows he loves her more than she loves him, because she does nothing to get him to stay, so he goes quietly when his parents leave the UK. He knows he will never love anyone like he loved her, but he has to move on.

Twelve years on, they have made a good job of pretending, they may have almost forgotten. But when they get in touch via Facebook, it seems that it is all still there. 

They quickly find that they are intensely compatible in ways they hadn’t even begun to explore before they were forced apart. 

Can they put aside their fears and give it a go? Or will deep rooted doubts and insecurities tear them apart?


Saying I was a bit excited to get started on this series is a bit of an understatement. I had to set aside books already lined up for this weekend just so I can get on with Liv and Danny's love story. And I am now grateful that I did because I had a great time reading them.

I wouldn't go so far as to saying that I could relate to the story. (That's best served another day and definitely not through a blog.) But the premise of a rekindled romance after twelve years of silence is really something  that is close to my heart. The initial FB exchange that started their communication again after that time just caused butterflies in my stomach. I guess everyone may have gone through that stage when one had that kind of friend request and couldn't help feeling giddy when they got that message.

That tone really set the mood of the book as being relateable with an easy prose to match...that got me skipping a meal just so I can finish it one go. Note that this is me...who loves to eat much too much. I couldn't help sporting some silly grins when they eventually got around to seeing each other after so many years. It might not have been the easiest of roads but I find that they were able to easily got back together again and how they easily slipped back to being so comfortable with each other. It was totally enviable because I know I wouldn't be able to do that so easily. Not by a long shot.

Ha! I'm gushing. It didn't help one bit that Danny was a total romantic I wouldn't mind having for myself. Le sigh.


Final verdict: 8/10. Good read.
